The Labrador-Guide Dog Foundation in aid to the Blind, seated in Poznan, is a non-profit organization, registered in the National Judicial Register under number KRS 0000153064 on February 28th , 2003.
As of March 19th 2004, the Foundation has the status of an organization for public advantage.
Its statutory goal is social and professional rehabilitation of blind and vision impaired people thanks to guide dogs, trained by the Foundation and handed over free to these people. The seat of the Foundation is Poznań.
A guide dog is often called “the blind person’s eyes”, but it needs a long training to properly perform its duties. Young dogs up to about 18 months of age live with families of volunteers, who’s task is to teach the dog obedience and social behaviour. Then the dogs get a 6 months long proper training and upon its completion they become licensed guide dogs.
The dogs stay for their whole life the property of the Foundation and once they finish their hard work and go to “canine retirement”, the Foundation provides care for them.
The best breed to meet this difficult challenge is the Labrador retriever.
